Original Educator Profile

Original Educator Profile: Meet Magdalena!

What makes you an Original Educator?

I am naturally curious and detail-oriented. I see beauty in almost everything, and I approach the world with a sense of wonder. I see an opportunity for lessons in everything, related to my subject (Spanish) or to life.

I love to create and bring light into dark external or internal places. I encourage people to grow and to find their hidden potential. I open doors of learning opportunities for my students and coworkers. I embrace diversity of thinking and being, and I am willing to invest myself in causes that resonate with me.

What have you learned most from working with Sara?

What I am always looking for in sessions with Sara is the language. Language is a powerful tool that can help us put our thoughts into action or hinder them. I love the fact that Sara seems to read my mind and gives me the proper words to express my thoughts and ideas. Sara’s ability and confidence to lead a workshop or a session is impressive.

When I work with Sara, I can rely on her to find answers and guidance. Sara is the kind of person I love to have as a coach or mentor, she has the wisdom I look for. She makes me feel comfortable despite the difficulty of a situation. She sees the bigger picture and helps me find my way out.

What is the most important emotional skill educators need to have?

We need to have the confidence in ourselves to be educators. In our toolbox we need to have resilience, courage, an open heart, vision, wisdom and calm.

Who is your hero?

I have different heroes; it all depends on the situation and time of my life. One day it can be one of my students or a coworker. Sometimes a person at the airport or a street vendor, sometimes an animal or myself. However, most of the times, I would say my parents!

What is the last song you danced to?

‘Qué Vendrá’ a song by a French singer called Zaz. It talks about finding one’s own way and let life happen. It is a very positive song.

Magdalena has been teaching for 19 years.
